Posada Camarga in Santiago Millas, the heart of the Maragatería
Discover a place where time isn´t governed by the clock… Welcome to Camarga. A "Maragato" (*) house, near to the St. Jame's Way, hidden away from time, from the rush and noise of the everyday world. A house in which the landscape calls at your window when you awake and the log fire delights you at night.
Margarita Quintana, the owner, decided that the clock should no longer dominate her life and, when she discovered this Maragato house, knew that she wanted to share it with likeminded travelers. She opens the doors of her house to those who wish to enjoy open spaces and good food; unknown places to be discovered and peaceful moments. To people who want to feel at home on their travels.
(*) Maragato is the word which defines a group of people, living in a small number of villages in the heart of Leon, who were dedicated to the transport of fish from the ports of Galicia to Madrid. Their livelihood, based on the driving of mule and ox trains through the mountains, is reflected in the architecture of their houses. Traditionally considered a very closed society, they had unique wedding ceremonies which are represented each year in May in Astorga.
